A retired couple, wanting to live closer to family, worked with Brian to design this off-grid 900 square foot cabin edition. They hoped to create an accessory dwelling unit to live alongside their children and grandchildren. The owners strongly appreciate historical architecture and wanted to apply its principles economically without sacrificing the home’s character. An efficient use of the square footage was a top priority.
The living room, kitchen, and loft, face sweeping views into the forest and across the cliffs into a ravine. From these primary spaces, guests can sit and enjoy the beauty of nature and see the sunsets.
The main entry of the edition leads into the living room with vaulted wood ceilings. Stonework surrounds the woodstove and is part of the living room setting. A loft sitting above the entry is a perfect spot for a bed. A feature staircase with steps fanning out, wraps around the lower newel posts as it leads up to the room.
The galley kitchen offers an efficient use of space. Counters rest against the exterior wall, offering natural light into the kitchen. On the opposite side, a thick wall with doors serves as the pantry.
